My car is a solid (non metallic) midnight blue color and it has to be parked outdoors. The color oxidizes fairly quickly. I polish it in the fall but come summer the paint will turn chalky again. Is there anything that will really protect the paint? I’ve been using Menzerna FP2 and glaze. Wax will definitely fade fast outdoors. Are sealants any good?
Wash, clay bar, wax. Maybe go over it with a little quick detailer when it starts to look bad and see if that clears it up. If not, you’re probably going to need to wax often. I know my Mustang sits outdoors and I wash it weekly but it’s a PITA to keep it clean since it’s exposed to the elements at all times.
Zack
Try waxing it

hey-just get a cheap car cover from wal-mart if your not driving it everyday that will protect your rides finish and you wont have to worry about your paint fading as much.

i use to have a dark blue honda civic and i kept the paint good by washing the car every week litterally. a car cover when im not using it or tried to park under some shade as much as possible. wax i used every 2 months but make sure u do it when its not to sunny or do it in a garage and let it sit there for a day to be sure it doesnt fade.

the car shouldnt be oxidizing that quickly, especially if its clear coated
hopefully youre not just applying wax that letting it go for the rest of the year
1: wash car: hopefully you already know that this does
2. clay car -this removes contaminants stuck to the paint, that normal washing wont get off. You can also clay your windows/wheels etc. I suggest Meguiars smooth surface clay kit.
3. Paint cleaners(aka polishes): These remove oxidation/scratches/stains/etc. They have no protection at all. Different strengths for different paints. I suggest starting with Meguiars Swirlx, and if needed, then step up to Meguiars ultimate compound. Apply in a 16×16 in. section with a microfiber applicator. Work it in for about a minute and wipe off immediately with microfiber towel. Inspect results, repeat or move up to a more aggressive product. Switch to a new pad after every couple of panels, since product and paint will build up in the pad, making them less affective.
4. Pure Polish: These help the paint shine by adding oils to the paint. But do not add protection either. Work best on darker colors and cars with single stage paints. But can still work good on lighter colored cars. Its really optional, since the paint cleaners mentioned above have polishing oils in them. But if you have single stage paint, then definitely use it. Use meguiars deep crystal polish, or their #7 polish. Just kind of message them into the paint, in a 16×16 in. section for about 40 seconds. then wipe off immediately. These can be a real pain to remove.
5: wax: locks in polish, adds protection and shine. Apply using microfiber applicator and spread a thin even layer all over your car, not getting any on plastic/vinyl/pourous surfaces ( itll stain). Let it dry to a haze (usually 15-20 minutes) then wipe off with microfiber towel. Suggest meguiars nxt 2.0 tech wax as its actually a paint sealant so itll last longer
