It’s my first time to go hunting this year and I would like to have as many tips as possible. I have both a bow and a .270 so I plan on hunting both bow and rifle. Thanks!
@Justine…. I suppose you don’t eat meat… Not all people hunt just for the sport of it. You should take up some of your own advice and get into some outside activities, rather than criticize simple questions in the hunting section… you should go to tree hugging hippie forums…. Thanks!

Scouting is the single most important thing that will contribute to your success when deer hunting. Check out the areas you wish to hunt for trails, bottle necks, creek crossings , feeding areas, bedding areas, and always set your stand up downwind of the area you are watching.

Shooting innocent animals is awful. Why would anyone think it is fun to take the life of another creature. Anyone who thinks killing is a sport has screw lose. Take up rollerbladding or pingpong or jump out of an airplane. Jeez.

I agree with Justine mostly. I have no problem morally with hunting. I personally could not slaughter an innocent deer, but to each their own. My advice would be this. If you murder a deer, don’t put it’s head on the wall or allow your photo with corpse be placed in a newspaper as if you actually accomplished something by shooting a defenseless animal.

justine: do you know what hemorragic disease is? how about blue tounge virus? ever heard of chronic wasting disease? of course you havent. because it isnt the deer you care about. its your own delicate sensibilities you are trying to protect. grow up and realize there are more deer in the US now than ever before. and its not because of bleeding hearts like you. its because hunters actually bother to learn what is best for the animals instead of just making sure our little feewings dont get hurt. grow up kiddo.

Justine hunters contribute more than anyone.

There is a species of black deer (I can not remember their name) that are native to india, they nearly went extinct, thanks to hunters there are more of that species on 1 ranch in Texas than all of India.

So the "evil" hunters saved the deer, aren’t they just so cruel

learn to rattle and use plenty of doe in estrus scent , splash some on your boots while you walk around
a deer call wont hurt either, but most important is know where bambi is gonna be unless you have a guide that can can place you on the deer.
that way you avoid several days worth of scouting an area.
