What is Treasure Hunting

admin on Jul-30-2011

Treasure hunting is a rather contagious pastime. For some, it can become an obsession (in the best sense of the word!). People worldwide are fascinated with the hobby of treasure hunting.

Coming across a valuable item in your treasure hunt can be a real thrill. Even an item that may not have monetary value could be personally attractive to the right hunter.Part of the thrill is in the chase; not knowing what you may find lends a sense of mystery and intrigue to the treasure hunt.

In years past, a treasure hunt could have been a very dangerous quest. Pirating was rampant, with several competitive and devious hunters often after the same prize. Quite often, the myth or rumor of a valuable buried or sunken treasure led to bloodshed and fighting between hunters.

Before airplanes became the preferred method of worldwide travel, those in search of life in a new land would travel by ship to their new destination. As it could take months to sail from one continent to another, passengers were unsure if they would even return to their home land. They would pack up all of their worldly possessions to take with them to the ‘new world’. One might pack several trunks of furs, coins, jewelry, dishware, and other valuable goods to take with them to their new life.

These ships laden with valuable items were prime targets for pirates.Ships were always on the look out for pirates that may try to board and rob, or  even kill, the passengers onboard. While this high seas robbery is certainly not called treasure hunting, it demonstrates just how vulnerable these ‘treasures’ were. People traveling away from home were not only vulnerable to theft while sailing; these pirates had no qualms about robbing a ship after a natural disaster struck.

Ships sailing far from home had to endure terrible storms, barrier reefs, extremely high waves and more as they slowly made their way from one point to the next. Unfortunately, many ships succumbed to the dangers they faced, and sank.

Before GPS and radio, it was really anyone’s guess where they ship may have gone down. Tales and fables would develop about the location of the sunken ship and its possible contents. For example, if a royal family member or businessman was on board, one might assume that quite a bit of valuable merchandise sank with the ship.

If the ship was not immediately located, an air of mystery would develop around the tale as it was passed down through generations of curious people. Those will the resources and desire would undoubtedly go in search of the ship in an effort to recover some of the ‘treasures’ on board. These expeditions were treasure hunts in the truest sense of the word!

A treasure may also be something that a person unfortunately lost. Of course, if you find a valuable item, you should make every attempt to return it to its rightful owner. But in most cases, the owner is never found, leaving the treasure hunter as the new owner. We’ll discuss great places to find this kind of treasure a little later on, but some items that you could expect to come across include watches, rings, coins, or necklaces.

Other treasures may have been worthless when they were disposed of, but have now become so rare or desirable that they have increased in value. Arrowheads from battles past; carvings; certain stones, etc can all prove to be valuable finds.

Before there were designated garbage dumps, unwanted items were often buried or simply thrown into the bush. Over time, these items were long forgotten. However, finding a rare dish, for example, that can be traced to a certain crafter or era could be a real treasure.

Some treasures may have absolutely no monetary value at all, but could be very sentimentally valuable to the right person. Old family photos, a favorite teddy bear, or a letter from your first love would all be great treasures to find. It would rare to stumble across a sentimental treasure unless you were specifically looking for it, but it can happen!

Whatever your reason for treasure hunting; whatever you are searching for, you are sure to find a few surprises along the way! Treasure hunting is truly a hobby for anyone to enjoy.

Freshwater Fishing Trips: Some Tips to Remember

admin on Jul-30-2011

Freshwater fishing trips can be a great way to enjoy on weekends. In fact, those weekly trips to the lakes, rivers and streams to enjoy some hours of fishing are a common thing for many individuals, as this sport is considered one of the most exciting as well as fulfilling games among American anglers and fishers.

However, one should be reminded that fishing, while it can be very enjoyable, has its share of hazards and dangers. For example, there is no denying that many of the fly fishing equipments has sharp parts and tools. One example is the fishing hook, which can contribute to accidents happening even if you least expect it. Likewise, we must remember that we cannot control the fishing environment. Sudden change of weather can happen such as the formation of storms or hurricanes which can definitely spoil your freshwater fishing trip.

If you plan to go to a nearby lake or out of state with some family members or friends for some freshwater fishing trips, you must plan days or weeks beforehand as it can really require a lot of preparations before you finally get into your car and head for your fishing destination.

Freshwater fishing trips need much preparation. First of all, make sure that you have all the angling gear and equipment packed – nothing should be missing. Even simple things such as the flashlight should not be forgotten as you will never know when it is going to be handy.

It is advisable to know the weather of the area where you will fish. Definitely it is going to be great help if you are aware of the weather not just days before but on the day of the fishing trip itself. Check on the internet for the local weather conditions.

You might get excited having the warm sun shine brightly as you and your group enjoy some nice fishing moments. You must be aware that hours upon hours of sun exposure can be very damaging to your skin. You can avoid any future skin problems caused by overexposure to the sun due to your fishing hobby by bringing along sun block and using it. Likewise, a hot day can be dehydrating so better bring along a bottle of water to replenish what your body has lost during your sun-drenched fishing session.

One of the worse that can happen is if you get short of bait. No more bait to use can really spoil the fun. If you have a can already running low of worms, you can try avoiding really running out of bait by cutting them into half. This can cause your bait to look smaller. But the important thing is that it can somewhat do some movement still, and can work to lure your fish.

Indeed, freshwater fishing trips can be very relaxing yet exciting at the same time. Still, there are many things that you need to consider such as your group’s safety while on the fishing site. Definitely it is a lot more memorable if you have enjoyed your trip with no bad incident with all safe as you get back home. Surely you just cannot wait to plan for the next trip.

Be prepared to face any scenario to keep your fishing adventure as relaxed as possible. With all these in mind, you could enjoy your fishing trip safely and successfully.

Can I plant an avacado tree outdoors in Southern WV?

admin on Jul-29-2011

I live in southern WV and have an avacado tree groing in my lving room, can I plant it outdoors? Will it survive the winter?

Avocados – to the best of my knowledge – need warmth, HATE cold/frost/snow/sleet, and don’t like to be either too wet or too dry. So if you have any climatary factors that would prohibit growth, that would be the biggest deciding factor.

Read more here:

http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/homefruit/avocado/avocado2.html

Also, be aware that seed-grown avocados don’t always bear fruit, as they need to be cross-pollinated from a fruit-bearing tree in your area (of similar variety), or otherwise professionally grafted which can be costly and not guaranteed.

Why are hunting questions all about equipment and not about technique?

admin on Jul-29-2011

I have found in my life that hunting is about the man who hunts, his style and abilities, not about his stuff,.What do you think?
All right, Sarah!
Hey, roadhunt, She’s just a kid. Give ‘r a break…

The answer is that it’s Yahoo!s fault. Since there is no category specifically for asking questions about firearms, all those questions come to the closest category they can find. Hunting.

I do see technique questions here, they’re just outnumbered 100 to 1 by mall ninjas flaunting their ignorance. Which, if you think about it, really does mirror life.

How do you replace fishing line on an Abumatic model 120 or model 170 fishing reel?

admin on Jul-29-2011

I have no paperwork for either model that instructs you how to change the fishing line. I’ve seen schematics for the model 170 but no instructions for either model. These are the ’60-’70′s vintage reels. Thank you.

Have you try to take the top off because there should be a area in there where line suppose to go but if you have any problem you should just go to a local bait and tackle shop and im pretty sure they would help you or they would even ask if you want line on them and they would gladly put fishing line on your reel for a cheaper price then if you bought a whole 300 YRD line at the store.

Can I successfully paint on canvas outdoors in the winter?

admin on Jul-25-2011

I don’t have a room that I can have enough ventilation to do art, so I was wondering if I could use oil / acrylic paints on stretch canvases outdoors in the winter? How warm does it need to be before I can take my painting outside? ( I work with Daler-Rowney acrylic, and Winsor Newton oils) Does temperature cause paintings to crack? How should I go about painting, since I currently do not have a indoor room to work in? Thanks!
The average temperature here is low 50s F.

wrap up warm & wear a type of glove that inhibits hand/finger movement as little as possible.
it will be healthier, due to any fumes, to work outside. some people take a photo of scene, etc in cold temperatures, so they can work from that when they get home to warmer temperature. goodluck.
it wd be interesting to hear how u get on.

What is the best camcorder to take ghost hunting?

admin on Jul-25-2011

Ok so i need to know what is the best cam camcorder to take ghost hunting. I need one that has night vision and infrared. Also if there is anything else that can help me at night like another light to put on top of my cam corder. Where can i buy these cam corders and accessories. To take Ghost hunting.

There are very many different types and brands of video recording devices and camcorders you can invest in. Finding one is not that hard and you do not have to spend a whole lot of cash to get one to suit your needs. The higher end video cameras are not cheap. The Infrared and "FLIR" Forward Looking Infrared cameras are upwards of $1,200.00 and unless you can fork out that much it really is not necessary to buy one. There are types and brands that have night vision features and settings you can acquire for around the $300.00 range. Best Buy is a great place to go and test these cameras out. You can have a store clerk assist you and you can also compare between them. Any camera, digital and film , is capable of capturing activity. As long as you are recoding and have it on a setting that is appropriate for the environment you are just as likely to get it with an inexpensive camera than with a higher end one. I’ve upgraded to a Digital SLR Nikon D 60 (still) but actually have captured more activity on my Kodak easy share. Its more being in the right place at the right time with what ever you have at the time not necessarily the best equipment. Happy hunting.

What is the best fishing spot in northeast Ohio?

admin on Jul-25-2011

I like to fish, I am by no means an expert. I am not to terribly patient. So I am looking for a good fishing spot that has a lot of fish in it with awesome shore fishing. But if the place rents out pontoon boats, I dont need shore fishing. Specifically I would like to catch some catfish. Ideally I would be looking for quality in numbers and size. So anyone know?

It’s not really northeast but you could go to Tappan Lake. There are some huge catfish there, but you have to know what you’re doing or you won’t catch any.

Sprinkler Valves

admin on Jul-24-2011

Sprinkler valves are one of the most important components of your sprinkler system. If the valves malfunction, the job of your sprinkler system will be affected. Sprinkler valves can cause your sprinkler system to leak, clog, or just not work quite right. That is why it is important to purchase sprinkler valves that are well made and that hold up well to the rigors of water and being outdoors. Two names come to mind when choosing components for your sprinkler system, Rainbird and Hunter, simply because they are dedicated to making sprinkler components that are efficient and stand the test of time. How do you choose sprinkler valves for your system, whether it is an existing system or new system?

Research. Research is essential when choosing components for your sprinkler system. By researching the sprinkler system that you have, you will be more able to choose the right components for your system to keep it working efficiently. By doing your research before your purchase, you will be able to choose the right sprinkler valves for your needs and for your system. Research takes time, but it is well worth the time that you put into it, simply because you will be able to make the most of your purchase and the money spent on your purchase.

Purpose. What is the purpose of your sprinkler valve? Is it a backflow preventer that helps to keep water from backflowing into the system and into your water supply? Is it an anti-siphon valve that will keep water from siphoning out of the ground or areas of standing water and back into the water system? Is it a simple irrigation valve that controls the flow of water through your sprinkler system? Or is it a quick-coupling valve that will allow you to use the system to connect your water hose? You will need to know what type of sprinkler valve you need to ensure you get the right one.

Purchase. Now that you have done your research, you are ready to make your purchase. Don’t let the price of the sprinkler valve solely influence your decision. You want to make sure that you buy the best quality of sprinkler valve that you can afford to make the most of your sprinkler system. Spending a little bit more now can have a big impact upon how long the sprinkler valve will last in the long run and how efficient it will work.

Sprinkler valves are not something that most people even consider until they are faced with one that is malfunctioning. By putting the time and thought into this component when installing your system or updating it, you will find that it will make your system last for much longer and it will help your system to work the way it was designed to. Research, purpose, and purchase are your steps to choosing sprinkler valves that will make your sprinkler system do its job efficiently and completely.
