How Mosaic Tile Can Be Used Outdoors

admin on Apr-28-2011

Mosaic tile is a wonderful element to add to your outside landscaping. If you have a patio or pool area, using mosaic tile in these places can create a unique look that you won’t find with any other material. Take a look at some of the unique ways that you can use mosaic tile in your outdoor landscaping.

Typically we think of mosaic tile and its use in swimming pools and similar areas. These uses can be quite stunning when they are used to create an outdoor mural in your swimming pool. Many people have created an image in the bottom of their swimming pool with the use of mosaic tile. The designs that can be created by the artisans that work with this material is incredible and will liven up your pool area in a way that no other material can.

If you have a fountain in your backyard landscaping, the use of mosaic tile can add to the beauty of this addition to your yard. When a fountain is placed in a garden area surrounded by flowers, the look is incredible. Add mosaic tile to the area around the fountain and you will have a look like no other. It will create a serene beauty that will give you hours of peaceful beauty when you are in your garden.

The walkways and paths that are in your backyard or even front yard landscaping are a great opportunity to use mosaic tile for a fabulous look. Create a design that suits your own taste and style for the areas of the backyard that are often neglected.

Your outdoor furniture can benefit from the look of mosaic tile as well. Creating a designer look on top of your garden tables with mosaic tile is a way to create outdoor furniture that is like nothing you will find on the market. When you use mosaic tile, you will be able to choose the tiles and create a look that is exactly what you want, not what you are able to find in the stores.

There are many landscaping ideas that you can use in your yard that can be enhanced with the look of mosaic tile. Imagine the walkways that meander through your garden gleaming with the look of these colorful designs. You can top the benches in the garden as well with a lovely design that you create on your own. The ideas are endless if you consider all of the surfaces in your outdoor landscaping that would benefit from the colorful and unique look of mosaic tile.

When you are choosing the tile for your mosaic design, it is very important that you choose very high quality materials. The piece that you create will last much longer if you start off with the best materials. You should look for a dealer that will be able to provide you with the highest grade mosaic tile available in the market. You should use a professional to install the tile in some of the more difficult areas. But it is possible to top your furniture on your own and transform a dull and lifeless piece of outdoor furniture into something colorful and stunning for your yard.

Treasure Hunting in Groups

admin on Apr-28-2011

Hobbies are supposed to be fun! And treasure hunting is no exception. There are plenty of fun games and activities you can use to make treasure hunting a fun outing for the whole family.

If you decide to take others treasure hunting with you, whether it is your children or older relatives, it won’t be much fun for them if they’re just watching you all day. Let’s face it, sitting around and watching someone run a metal detector over the ground is hardly a thrilling experience. The key is to get everyone involved. Not only does this make it more fun for them, but you will have extra hands working away at finding the treasure you are after!

Some companies even organize treasure hunts as corporate activities. It’s a really great way to get coworkers working together on a common goal: finding the treasure! People learn to be innovative, creative and persistent during treasure hunts.

Some treasure hunting companies even offer corporate discounts. Each person on the hunt should have a job or task to do. Put one person in charge of navigating or leading the group to the treasure. Another could be
responsible for protecting found treasures from damage. Giving people a sense of purpose will help them to become involved and they will enjoy the treasure hunt that much more.

When planning a group treasure hunting outing, consider using a treasure hunting company as your guide. These people are experienced; they know which equipment you need; where you are likely to find your treasure; and all of the rules surrounding treasure hunting in the area.

Some treasure hunting companies will provide all of the equipment necessary for the hunt. So while it may cost money to book the hunt, you will be saving money by not having to buy equipment for several people. One example of this would be an underwater hunt. If you are taking a group of friends to the beach for a ring and jewelry hunt, it could be quite costly to provide snorkeling equipment for everyone.

A treasure hunting company would supply them for a rental fee. You wouldn’t be stuck with a dozen snorkel masks to store after the trip!

When taking children treasure hunting, it is important that each child has their own tools and equipment. To stay organized, use the grid method that we discussed earlier. Map out your treasure hunting area, and assign each child a square. Assigning a separate area to each child should limit the amount of bickering that goes on. Congratulate each child on their finds, even if it’s a worthless pop can. You could even plant treasures the day before, to ensure that each child uncovers something different.

If you are planning a treasure hunt for children, always consider their safety first.

They will need to be closely supervised during the hunt. One adult per three children is a good ratio. Try to limit treasure hunting with children to areas where you are sure there will be very few threats or dangers. In could be disastrous for a child to dig up a sharp, rusted object, or to stumble across a weapon or drug paraphernalia. Children typically have a short attention span, so keep the treasure hunt brief or have other activities throughout the day. Prizes and a meal at the end of the hunt would make for a perfect day.

Anytime you get a group of people together for a treasure hunt, remember to act as host and to provide a few necessities. If you are treasure hunting in the sun or in a hot climate, you will need to have plenty of drinks on hand to keep everyone hydrated throughout the day.

Survey of Recommended Miami Fishing Marinas

admin on Apr-28-2011

Fishing may be taking a back seat to fine restaurants and pulsing nightlife, but Miami fishing charter boat captains are still enjoying steady business. With the Gulf Stream so close, anglers can enjoy catching grouper, tuna, dolphins, kingfish and more.

So, if you’re planning a Miami deep-sea fishing trip, try checking out the area’s top four marinas – the Crandon Park Marina, Haulover Beach Marina, Miami Beach Marina and the Bayside Marketplace. Each offers something a little different and a wide range of captains and ships to choose from.

Miami Crandon Park Marina

The Crandon Park Marina is considered the prime spot to go for some of the best Miami fishing charter boat companies and captains in the business. The marina is well-known, popular and has a strong reputation. However, thanks to its popularity, the rates can be slightly higher than other marinas and will typically range from $500 for 4 to 5 hours to $700 for an entire day.

Haulover Beach Park

Head down Collins Avenue in Miami Beach and you’ll find the Haulover Beach Park Marina just steps away from the infamous Haulover Beach nudist beach section. Perhaps its the area’s proximity to the Gulf Stream, but the Haulover Marina is home to the largest drift and charter fleet in South Florida. You can also call ahead at 305-947-3525 for recommendations and fishing updates.

Haulover Beach Marina is busy, with numerous boats to choose from, but recommended charters include the Helen C, Haulover Charter Company and the Kelley Fleet.

Miami Beach Marina

The majority of boats docked at the Miami Beach Marina are private vessels, but there are a number of private fishing charters. Recommended captains and fleets include Miami Beach Charters, the Reward Fleet and the Sissy Bay.

You can find the Miami Beach Marina along the MacArthur Causeway to 300 Alton Road, or by phone at 305-673-6000.

The Bayside Marketplace Marina

Like the Miami Beach Marina, the Bayside Marketplace is a mix of private boats, commercial vessels and private fishing charter companies. Laid-back angles might prefer the more relaxed atmosphere and low-pressure sales pitch. The marketplace is 5 minutes from Miami Beach and just 20 minutes from Fort Lauderdale.

Average Costs

For a private Miami fishing charter boat, you can expect to pay between $450 and $500 for a 4-5 hour day. Passage can also be booked on party boats or group vessels for as little as $30.

However, if you’re on more of a budget, you can book passage on a group boat for about $30. Many of these boats also offer a 50-50 plan, where you can sell or take half your catch, while they sell or take the other half.

Taking a fishing charter from one of the marinas in Miami can be a thrilling experience for the true angler. For most, the costs are affordable (apart from the transportation to and from Miami, of course), and the waters are teeming with pending catches that would be well-worth bringing home.

How would you get rid of a concentrated cat urine smell outdoors in your yard and on deck?

admin on Apr-26-2011

I have had lime suggested to me and honestly I don’t really know that much about lime. If you know how/why lime would work for this, please share!

This is where a cat colony has been living and it smells horrifically – outdoors! I’ve never encountered a cat urine smell outdoors before.

All reasonable suggestions appreciated!

Lime is from the gardening section at any outdoor garden center. It comes by the bag and it’s a white powder, sprinkled down by hand to help decrease odors. It’s a great fertilizer too, which is the main reason they sell it. It’s fairly cheap and is easy to come by.

Try googling ‘garden lime’, it’ll give you a rundown on it. There’s a lot of garden stuff written about it. Here’s one bit.
———————-
Usually application rates are 2 to 3 pounds per 100 square feet of garden area, every couple of years to raise the pH from 5.5 to 6.5. Never apply more than 5 pounds per 100 square feet at any one time.
——————–
If you google ‘garden lime for smells’ the first thing that comes up is how to remove smells from sewage backup on lawns. I think pet urine is far far less nasty than that!

How old is to old to start hunting a rabbit dog?

admin on Apr-26-2011

I just wanted to know.
You see I have six rabbit dogs. Which are obviously beagles. One of them is about 5 years old. But I still hunt her. At what age should I stop hunting her?
I mean I don’t want to push her to hard at all! I want to stop hunting her before she gets to old though.

* Mine was still hunting and chasing Cottontail Rabbits when he was Seventeen (17*) years old, like he was only Two (2*) years old.* I kid you not.* He died that year while he was chasing a Cottontail Rabbit, a Driver of a car struck and Killed him, but never even tried not to hit him, or stop after he did kill him.* Everybody in the Family cried that day.* There are no cars in Dog Heaven so he’s happier there chasing them rabbits.*

What lures should i use for surf fishing on the oregon coast?

admin on Apr-26-2011

What lures should i use for surf fishing on the oregon coast?
Im going surf fishing at the oregon coast about 3-5 miles from Pacific city and i was wondering what type of fish are there? what are the dangers of surf fishing? what lures should i use? what fish are edible? any answers are appreciated, thank you.

After having visited off that coast and fished you can use any kind of spinner type lure or the old fashioned huge rapala lures to catch all sorts of fish such as mackerel and some salmon type fish and some grouper and some really fun pickerel and good luck with your fishing.

Wooden Playhouses Provide Hours of Fun Outdoors

admin on Apr-24-2011

Remember when you were a kid and you gulped down your dinner because you were anxious to rendezvous with your pals in the wooden playhouse in your backyard? An outdoor playhouse can provide hours of fun for children, in addition to helping them get away from the computer and television screens at the same time playhouse activity stimulates their imaginations.

There’s no reason to settle for a playhouse with no character cobbled together from old cardboard boxes and bed sheets when you can purchase an attractive playhouse with personality and character constructed from wood that will be safe and sturdy in addition to lasting through all kinds of weather. Among the many benefits of investing in a playhouse constructed of wood is that the structure can offer enjoyment year after year, provide a safe environment for children’s play while out of doors, provide shelter when the weather is rainy or windy, in addition to being an attractive addition to any children’s outdoor playground.

Playhouses constructed of wood can be designed as a miniature replica of your actual home. Other playhouse models are fashioned to resemble rustic log cabins or sod houses reminiscent of the popular TV show “Little House on the Prairie.”

Other wooden playhouses are built to resemble architecture that is popular in a particular part of the country, such as Cape Cod cottages, a Dallas mansion or an East Coast Victorian manor. Playhouses constructed of wood are also available in styles that resemble a fire station, a little red schoolhouse or a decorative gingerbread cottage that looks like it sprang to life from a favorite fairy tale.

The beauty of a playhouse constructed from wood is that it can be painted in your child’s favourite colours and customized with functional doors and windows.

In order to maintain your wooden playhouse in good condition, be sure to apply weatherproofing to all wood surfaces just as you would a regular house in order to protect the wood from changes in weather . If the exterior is starting to look a bit shabby, you’ll be surprised how quickly a fresh coat of paint will restore an old well-used playhouse to look like new.

Be sure you position your playhouse in an area of the yard that gets both sunshine as well as shade. It’s a nice touch to add some landscaping around the playhouse to make it even more attractive. Be sure that your playhouse is positioned on a flat surface that is not subject to flooding during rain.

Offer any child the option of getting a backyard playhouse and their immediate reaction will assure you that wooden playhouses rule!
